We’re already 6 days into our Bible reading challenge in my community, and I have to admit—yesterday, I almost slipped up.
I’ve never been the most consistent when it comes to daily Bible reading, but this challenge has really helped me get started.
For the first few days, everything was going smoothly, and I felt like I was finally building a good habit.
So, What Happened?
Well, instead of beginning my day with Bible reading, like I’d been doing during this challenge, I jumped straight into work. Once I get into work mode, I tend to hyper-focus. And switching gears between work and spiritual activities is something I really struggle with. I came so close to skipping my Bible reading altogether.
But Jehovah is so kind.
My husband gave me a little nudge of encouragement, and it was just what I needed. I paused, took a deep breath, and sat down to read Psalm 100 for our upcoming week’s reading.
Psalm 100 is short—just 5 verses—but even in those few lines, I found such a beautiful gem. Verse 2 says:
“Serve Jehovah with rejoicing.”
It’s a simple yet powerful reminder that we want our service to Jehovah, including our Bible reading and study, to be full of joy.
Finding Joy in Worship
What really stood out to me in Psalm 100:2 is that serving Jehovah “with rejoicing” is deeply tied to having a strong, personal relationship with Him. And how do we strengthen that relationship? By regularly reading and meditating on His Word. It’s as simple as that. The more we read, the more joy we find in our worship of Him.
I realized something important: if I want to experience that joy, I need to give Jehovah my best. That means making Bible reading a priority—not waiting until I’m tired and unmotivated at the end of the day. I want my time with Jehovah to be the highlight of my day, and for that, I need to be well-rested and focused.
Yesterday’s reading was a great reminder of where I want my focus to be. My goal is to build a deeper relationship with Jehovah, and this challenge has been helping me stay on track. It also reminded me how easy it is to let daily tasks push aside something as important as Bible reading—but I don’t want to give up.
So, let’s keep going and make sure our Bible reading is filled with joy, knowing that it brings us closer to Jehovah each day.
